This article covers a group of cultural material assemblages unearthed in the temple complex of Ayanis city, which is the last royal project of the Urartian empire established by Rusa, son of Argishti. These artifacts in our study are the stone rings that stand out in Urartian monumental architecture and projects related to it. These stone rings which are placed in 2 cm wide niches with inlay technique are similar to the inlaid ornaments made of limestone that adorn the walls of the cella of Ayanis temple with many motifs as mythological creatures and trees of life. These stone rings which have three interlocking circular rings and are arranged independently on the surfaces has been discussed in a technical perspective. This study is particularly focused on this descriptive analysis

Background/Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the real-life efficacy and tolerability of direct-acting antiviral treatments for patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) with/without cirrhosis in the Turkish population.Material and Methods: A total of 4,352 patients with CHC from 36 different institutions in Turkey were enrolled. They received ledipasvir (LDV) and sofosbuvir (SOF)+/- ribavirin (RBV) ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir +/- dasabuvir (PrOD)+/- RBV for 12 or 24 weeks. Sustained virologic response (SVR) rates, factors affecting SVR, safety profile, and hepatocellular cancer (HCC) occurrence were analyzed. Results: SVR12 was achieved in 92.8% of the patients (4,040/4,352) according to intention-to-treat and in 98.3% of the patients (4,040/4,108) according to per-protocol analysis. The SVR12 rates were similar between the treatment regimens (97.2%-100%) and genotypes (95.6%-100%). Patients achieving SVR showed a significant decrease in the mean serum alanine transaminase (ALT) levels (50.90 +/- 54.60 U/L to 17.00 +/- 14.50 U/L) and model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) scores (7.51 +/- 4.54 to 7.32 +/- 3.40) (p<0.05). Of the patients, 2 were diagnosed with HCC during the treatment and 14 were diagnosed with HCC 37.0 +/- 16.0 weeks post-treatment. Higher initial MELD score (odds ratio [OR]: 1.92, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.22-2.38; p=0.023]), higher hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA levels (OR: 1.44, 95% CI: 1.31-2.28; p=0.038), and higher serum ALT levels (OR: 1.38, 95% CI: 1.21-1.83; p=0.042) were associated with poor SVR12. The most common adverse events were fatigue (12.6%), pruritis (7.3%), increased serum ALT (4.7%) and bilirubin (3.8%) levels, and anemia (3.1%).Conclusion: LDV/SOF or PrOD +/- RBV were effective and tolerable treatments for patients with CHC and with or without advanced liver disease before and after liver transplantation. Although HCV eradication improves the liver function, there is a risk of developing HCC.Turkish Association for the Study of The Liver (TASL

Objective: To compare dynamic lumbar stabilization and isokinetic exercise programs in patients with chronic lumbar pain. Design: Randomized controlled study. Setting: Exercise treatment.Participants: 84 patients between the ages of 18 and 55 years with complaints of lumbar pain due to at least 3 months of lumbar diskal hernia and who did not have any neurologic deficits.Interventions: Group 1 was given dynamic lumbar stabilization (DLS) exercises and lumbar school education (LSE) 3d/wk, 1h/d for a period of 6 weeks. Group 2 was given isokinetic exercises and LSE 3d/wk, 30min/d for a period of 6 weeks. Group 3 (control) was given only LSE. Main Outcome Measures: Visual analog scale (VAS), angular velocities of 90°/s and 120°/s performedby Biodex System 3 Pro isokinetic dynamometer, and lifting capacity with progressive isoinertial lifting evaluation (PILE). Results: Group 1 was the best, followed by group 2 and group 3 (P.01). Significant improvement in VAS was observed in groups 1 and 2; in group 3, there was only posttreatment improvement and improvement was not maintained at month 3. When muscle strength and endurance results were compared, increase in muscle strength and endurance values in group 2 was higher compared with the other groups. The 90° extension peak torque results performed in group 2 in month 3 were statistically significant compared with the other groups. In the PILE lifting capacity, more improvement was detected in the groups 1 and 2 compared with the control group (P.05). Conclusion: The DLS and isokinetic exercise program had positive effects on lifting capacity, skeletal muscle power, and endurance in patients with chronic lumbar disk hernia. Key Words: Education; Exercise; Low back pain; Rehabilitation; Treatment outcome. Poster 5

Gifted students’ decisions and justifications on a socioscientific dilemma related to the COVID-19 pandemic: Decisions and justifications on a socioscientific dilemma

No full text
The study focuses on the socioscientific dilemma which arises in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and is frequently voiced in the society and media: “Should we get a COVID-19 vaccine or not?” The study group of the current research employing the holistic single case study design, one of the qualitative research methods, is comprised of gifted students (n:32). As a result of the study, it was determined that the students made positive and negative decisions regarding getting vaccinated, and some of them stated that they would decide to get vaccinated or postpone the decision depending on whether some criteria would be met. The justifications proposed by the students making a positive decision include protection against the virus, fear of being infected and increasing number of deaths while the students making a negative decision gave justifications including not trusting the WHO (World Health Organization) and the vaccines produced by other countries, wanting to develop immunity through natural ways and believing that free vaccine is dangerous. Some of the students stating that they would decide depending on whether the criteria would be met emphasized some criteria such as the vaccine’s being tried and approved, development of the vaccine in their own country and its content’s being harmless
